Researcher Abdulmohsen Tawoos on Tuesday successfully defended his master's thesis in Political Science at the Faculty of Commerce and Economics at Sana'a University.
His thesis, titled "Political Employment of American Aid in the Republic of Yemen: A Case Study of the United States Agency for International Development," examines the political role of US aid to Yemen from 2003 to 2022.
The study analyzes how US aid is used to achieve political and strategic goals beyond its stated humanitarian and developmental objectives. It examines the mechanisms and conditions imposed by the US Agency for International Development in providing aid.
The discussion and judging committee, comprised of academic experts from Sana'a and Ibb Universities, praised the thesis's content and its findings. The committee recommended the printing and distribution of the thesis among universities.
The study concludes that US aid to Yemen has been used to strengthen American influence, impose political and economic conditions, and create economic dependency. It also highlights the inefficiency of international organizations in managing aid effectively, resulting in the waste of resources intended to benefit the Yemeni people.
