Hajjah province has witnessed a remarkable development in the implementation of agricultural projects since the establishment of the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects Financing Unit in the province.
The unit was keen to work in accordance with the directives of the wise revolutionary leadership and the strategic direction of the Supreme Political Council to enhance individual and community sufficiency, and encourage agricultural, livestock and fishery activity "belonging, identity, steadfastness and development".
During the past year 1445 AH and the current half of the year, the unit contributed to empowering small farmers and establishing small projects that gain them productive assets and provide them with a sustainable income that secures them a decent living.
It also played a role in financing agricultural studies and research with economic feasibility and income-intensive production and sustainable production of improved strains that solve most of our agricultural problems in a proactive step that enhances the steadfastness of the people in producing their own food by relying on Allah.
The unit paid attention to reclaiming agricultural lands, constructing water barriers and building dams to ensure supplying the local and foreign market with various types of fruits, vegetables and grains with high quality and reasonable prices.
A report issued by the unit indicated that 205 million and 932 thousand YER were spent during the mentioned period out of the unit's total contribution of 301 million and 926 thousand YER in implementing the activities and tasks of the agricultural sector and supporting bodies within the institutional and social building and the development of land and water resources and the plant and fish sector and agricultural and media guidance.
In institutional building, the report stated that the unit contributed to the maintenance of agricultural equipment and means of transportation in the districts of Abs, Bani Qais, the province center, Mustaba, al-Shaghaderah and Bakil al-Mir with an amount of 55 million and 599 thousand YER.
The report indicated that the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects Financing Unit contributed to social building by financing agricultural and fisheries projects in support of community and voluntary initiatives and works at a cost of 7 million and 954 thousand YER.
The report refuted the type of support and intervention in completing the implementation of Sayed Harbat Sayed Road project in the province center and supporting the community in Khairan al Muharraq with an amount of (3000) liters of diesel to transport sand and cut stones for Shabat al Sada Dam project.
The unit also contributed, according to the report, to renting a warehouse for the amount of cement allocated for community initiatives for Khairan al-Muharraq Agricultural Cooperative Society, Khairan al Muharraq, and renting and granting an in-kind loan of 10,000 liters of diesel to the Abs Agricultural Cooperative Society and two thousand liters to the Bani Qais Society.
According to the report, the unit contributed to supporting the College of Agriculture in Abs with an amount of 6 million YER to develop agricultural and fisheries education and establish, maintain and rehabilitate colleges and institutes (providing needs) and prepare training programs and support summer courses with an amount of 1 million and 615 thousand YER.
The Agricultural and Fisheries Projects Financing Unit provided an amount of 60 million YER to Bunyan Foundation for training and qualifying agricultural and fisheries cadres and cooperative societies and activating community participation from the total value of the project, which cost 170 million YER.
In the development of land resources, the report explained the unit's support for a number of agricultural land reclamation projects in a number of districts with an amount of 45 million and 867 thousand YER as a first installment of the unit's total contribution of 116 million and 686 thousand YER.
According to the report, the projects included contributing to supporting Bakil al-Mir Association for the Reclamation of Agricultural Lands and providing (32,500) liters of diesel in Bakil al-Mir and supporting the local council in Haradh with 32 thousand liters of diesel to reclaim agricultural lands in the directorate and supporting the efforts of Mustaba Agricultural Association with 6 thousand and 800 liters to reclaim lands in al-Raq'i in Wadi al-Hawl in the district.
The contribution included supporting the Abs Agricultural Cooperative Association to protect earthen barriers and open irrigation channels in Wadi Habl and providing 6 thousand liters of diesel as part of the project to protect agricultural lands from erosion and desertification in the directorate, in addition to supporting the efforts of Qafl Shammar Association to protect agricultural lands in Wadi Ayal Qafl Shammar.
It included field visits to the targeted districts and preparing field studies, surveys and other studies in the management and exploitation of valley sands in the province.
The report stated that the unit provided 6 million and 700 thousand YER in water resources development projects as a first phase to rehabilitate Imam Canal in Bani Qais district and rehabilitate flood irrigation systems (construction, maintenance and cleaning of canals) out of the unit's total contribution of 31 million and 974 thousand YER.
According to the report, the cost of plant sector development projects amounted to 18 million and 399 thousand and 600 YER and represented in developing the plant sector and providing 3 thousand coffee seedlings to a number of districts.
It included supporting the agricultural sector in the province according to the report in expanding the cultivation of grains and legumes and providing pesticides to the Aslam Agricultural Cooperative Society.
The Agricultural and Fisheries Projects Financing Unit implemented agricultural education and documentation programs via Hajjah Radio to enhance community awareness of the importance of moving towards agriculture and providing media tools to document the work accomplished at a cost of two million and 752 thousand YER.
The report indicated that the unit supported the conduct of value chain studies for fish production at a cost of 945 thousand YER to develop the fisheries sector.
The report explained that the next phase will witness the enhancement of work in the management of financing for implementing agricultural, animal and fisheries projects and initiatives in accordance with the principles of justice, transparency, accountability, efficiency and quality, within the framework of the applicable legislation and agricultural, animal and fisheries development policies and plans.
It stressed the keenness of the unit's board of directors to work in accordance with the tasks for which the unit was established in mobilizing the necessary financial resources to finance the implementation of agricultural, animal and fisheries projects for the administrative unit based on self-initiatives and cooperatives.
