Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his readiness to hold direct negotiations with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and other powers to put an end to what is happening (the war in Ukraine).
In response to a question posed by British presenter Piers Morgan about the possibility of negotiating with Putin, Zelensky replied that he would do so "if this is the only framework through which we can bring peace to the citizens of Ukraine."
He said in this interview, which was broadcast on Tuesday on Morgan's YouTube channel: If this is the case, "we will accept this framework, this meeting with four participants."
The Ukrainian president did not specify the identity of the other participants, but before that, Morgan raised the possibility of negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, the United States and the European Union.
The return of Donald Trump to the White House in January revived the possibility of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president had previously confirmed in an interview with American broadcaster Lex Friedman that he was ready to resolve the conflict in Ukraine with NATO guarantees for the territories controlled by Kiev.
Zelensky has consistently rejected the idea of negotiations, stressing that he wants to "defeat Russia on the battlefield."
For his part, Putin announced at the end of last January that he was open to negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine, but he refused to hold direct negotiations with his Ukrainian counterpart.
