The Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies and the Jordanian Food and Drug Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today in the Jordanian capital, Amman, to enhance technical cooperation and joint coordination.
The MoU, signed by Dr. Ali Mohammed Abbas, Chairman of the Supreme Authority for Medicines, and Dr. Nizar Mahmoud Muhaidet, Director of the Jordanian Food and Drug Corporation, includes provisions for exchanging technical consultations, expertise, information, and knowledge related to the standards, laws, regulations, and legislations adopted by the institution. It also aims to enhance scientific, industrial, and technological capacities.
Following the signing, the Chairman of the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies emphasized the commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Jordanian Food and Drug Corporation in the areas of training, exchange of expertise and information, and the transfer of Jordanian technology. He highlighted the potential benefits of leveraging this technology to localize the pharmaceutical industry in Yemen and fostering partnerships between Yemeni and Jordanian investors through the establishment of joint pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.
He regarded the signing of the MoU as a first step in joint cooperation, to be followed by further steps, such as the approval of pharmaceutical registration documents and other areas of mutual interest.
For his part, Dr. Muhaidet, Chairman of the Jordanian Food and Drug Corporation, stressed the importance of enhancing integration among Arab pharmaceutical industries to bolster Arab pharmaceutical security and promote partnerships to overcome any obstacles hindering the establishment of genuine collaborations.
He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting and developing specialized cooperation projects that encourage Jordanian exports of medicines and medical supplies to Yemen while facilitating related procedures.
Dr. Muhaidet explained that the MoU includes provisions to strengthen collaboration in monitoring and verifying the compliance of medicines and medical supplies with relevant standards and specifications. It also outlines mechanisms for drug and medical supply registration, bioequivalence studies, and the expansion and enhancement of testing and examination services for both parties. Furthermore, it includes training programs for the authority’s personnel in laboratory testing related to medical supplies and cosmetics.
The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of the Medical Supplies Registration Department at the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies, including Dr. Mohammed Abdul Khaleq, Dr. Ghassan Al-Louzi from the Importers Registration Department, Dr. Adnan Al-Aoudi from the Wholesale Traders Oversight Department, as well as Dr. Hanan Al-Siboul, Secretary-General of the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, and several representatives of Jordanian pharmaceutical companies exporting to the Yemeni market.
