Hajjah - Saba:
Field teams in Hajjah province managed on Sunday to treat 5,862 livestock against foot-and-mouth disease.
The national emergency campaign to treat livestock against foot-and-mouth disease, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, targeted the districts of Abs, Khiran al-Muharraq, Aslam, Bakil al-Mir, Shaha, Qafal Shammar, Kaidana, Bani Qais and Mustaba, where the spread of the disease has been detected.
The director of animal health and epidemiological surveillance in the province, Faris al-Ayani, explained that the week-long campaign managed to treat 1,759 heads of cattle, 2,345 heads of goats and 1,758 heads of sheep.
The targeted animals received three doses of treatment over three days, including antibiotics, disinfectants and anti-inflammatories to treat the symptoms associated with foot-and-mouth disease, as well as vitamins and nutritional supplements to support livestock immunity and enhance their resistance to the disease.
He pointed out that the campaign included veterinary guidance for breeders on methods of isolation, prevention, and dealing with infected cases, in addition to intensive veterinary programs that included field meetings with breeders to educate them on methods of prevention and treatment.
According to the Director of Animal Health, the campaign also included instructions on quarantining infected animals to limit the spread of the disease, guidelines on healthy nutrition to boost livestock immunity, and warnings against transporting infected animals to markets to avoid the spread of the disease.
