Dhamar - Saba:
14 field schools were implemented in Dhamar Governorate in a number of agricultural areas in the directorates, within the emergency agriculture program, and within the framework of the field schools project implemented by the agriculture sector in the governorate.
The field schools in the directorates of: Wesab Al-Safil, Al-Hada, Maifa'a Ans, Jahran, Dhuran, Wesab Al-Ali, Maghrib Ans, and Dhamar, included awareness-raising events and field activities for farmers of wheat, corn, legumes, vegetables, and fruits, funded by the Executive Unit for the Management and Financing of Agricultural Projects and Initiatives in the governorate.
In Wesab Al-Safil Directorate, the Agriculture Branch implemented three field schools for farmers of corn in the areas of Bani Sawada, Bani Saleh, and Bakhsh.
The Director of the Agriculture Branch in the Directorate, Engineer Yassin Ghaleb, confirmed that this season will witness the introduction of avocado cultivation in five demonstration fields, for the first time in the directorate.
The Agriculture Branch in Al-Hadaa Directorate implemented two field schools for grain farmers in the areas of Busan in Al-Absiya district, and Zurajah in the center of the directorate.
The Director of the Agriculture Branch in the directorate, Engineer Ibrahim Ali, explained that the two schools, which benefited 73 grain farmers, aimed to exchange agricultural experiences and information, especially with regard to the cultivation of grain and legume crops.
While the Agriculture Sector Branch in Mayfa'a Ans Directorate implemented three field schools in the Khirbet Afiq area for grain, legume, fruit (peaches), and vegetable (tomato) farmers.
The Director of the Agriculture Branch in the directorate, Engineer Tariq Abdel Fattah, considered the field schools a methodology for education and training as they aim to spread awareness among farmers, and rely on learning through experience and direct practice in agricultural fields, instead of traditional methods in classrooms.
In Jahran District, the Directorate's Agriculture Branch implemented a field school in the Qawan area, which included 25 grain and vegetable farmers.
The Director of the Agriculture Branch, Eng. Mohammed Al-Banous, stated that the participants received knowledge and information about tomato cultivation, how to choose healthy seedlings and good varieties, and guidance on the importance of following agricultural techniques that ensure a high level of production and achieve appropriate profitability for the farmer.
In addition, the Agriculture Sector Branch in Doran Ans District implemented two field schools for grain and vegetable farmers in the villages of Thober and Al-Masawir in Bani Hatem District, and Al-Arq in Al-Arq District.
The Director of the Agriculture Branch, Eng. Ahmed Musa, explained that the field schools relied on permanent meetings of farmers in agricultural fields during the agricultural season, to monitor the impact of different practices on crops, and to learn about the results of the experiments that were reached with specialists in agricultural guidance.
In Wasab Al-Ali District, the Agriculture Branch implemented a field school in the "Al-Zujaijiyah" area in Bani Namar District for grain farmers.
The Director of the Agriculture Branch in the Directorate, Eng. Abdul Karim Al-Juma, pointed out the importance of exploiting the current agricultural season and expanding the cultivation of various crops. He pointed out the efforts of the agriculture sector to introduce wheat crops in a number of agricultural areas in the directorate during the current agricultural season.
In Maghrib Ans Directorate, the Agriculture Branch implemented a field school for bean farmers in the village of Akmat Al-Futuh.
The Director of the Agriculture Sector Branch in the Directorate, Eng. Muhammad Abdul Razzaq, stressed the importance of expanding the cultivation of grains and legumes, noting that the agricultural climate in the directorate is suitable for the cultivation of many legume crops, including beans, in addition to the cultivation of corn, wheat, sorghum, and other crops.
In Dhamar Directorate, the Agriculture Sector in the Directorate implemented a field school in the Manqadha area, which included 20 grain farmers.
The Director of the Agriculture Sector Branch in the Directorate, Eng. Ibrahim Al-Mahdi, explained that following the field schools methodology contributes to reducing dependence on chemical inputs, such as pesticides and fertilizers, and improving farmers’ income by increasing productivity, improving crop quality, and enhancing knowledge exchange between farmers, which contributes to developing rural communities and improving sources of livelihood for agricultural families.
