US President Donald Trump announced today, Saturday, that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky must meet together to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Trump said in press statements, according to what was reported by the Russian Sputnik News Agency: "President (Russian Vladimir) Putin and President (Ukrainian Volodymyr) Zelensky must meet."
He added: "Because you know why. We want to stop killing millions of people."
On February 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation during which they discussed, according to Peskov, issues related to the exchange of Russian and American citizens, as well as settling the situation in Ukraine.
On February 16, Bloomberg quoted sources as saying that the US presidential administration plans to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine by April 20.
Trump asserted that the United States was engaged in "successful negotiations" with Russia to end the conflict in Ukraine, accusing Volodymyr Zelensky of causing the destruction of his country, and his predecessor Joe Biden and Europe of rejecting peace.
On February 19, Trump wrote a post on social media in which he described Zelensky as a "modestly successful comedian" and a "dictator."
US presidential adviser Mike Waltz later explained that Trump's sharp reaction was due to Kyiv's rejection of the rare earths deal.
