China put forward five points on the appropriate settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue during a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi on Friday in Beijing.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, that China remains committed to the peaceful settlement of disputes through political and diplomatic means and opposes the use of force and illegal sanctions.
He explained that China remains committed to balancing rights and responsibilities and adopts a comprehensive approach that takes into account the objectives of nuclear non-proliferation and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Wang continued, saying that China remains committed to the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as the basis for any new consensus.
He noted that China also remains committed to strengthening cooperation through dialogue and opposes pressure for UN Security Council intervention.
Wang also emphasized that China remains committed to a gradual and reciprocal approach and seeks consensus through consultations.
