Sana’a – Saba:
Foreign Minister Jamal Amer met with Manuel Antonio, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Division at the United Nations Department of Safety and Security, along with his accompanying delegation.
Present at the meeting were Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs, Ambassador Ismail Al-Mutawakel, and UN Department of Safety and Security Director in Sana’a, Senyo Kofi. Minister Amer was briefed on the measures that the Department of Safety and Security plans to implement to reduce logistical and security expenses at UN facilities and offices worldwide, in response to the financial crisis the organization is currently facing.
Minister Amer addressed the excessive reduction of humanitarian aid provided to Yemen by the United Nations, its agencies, and programs, by nearly 80 percent compared to 2024, which he described as a form of escalation against the Republic of Yemen. This includes the suspension of humanitarian operations in Saada Governorate, a move he linked to Yemen's stance in support of Gaza.
For his part, Manuel Antonio expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Government of the Republic of Yemen to the United Nations, especially amid the UN’s financial crisis, which has forced the organization to significantly cut expenditures and terminate contracts for many of its staff across various countries.
