Gaza - Saba:
The Government Media Office in Gaza accused the Israeli occupation of continuing to commit the crime of "thirst" against the Gaza Strip's population of more than 2.4 million people by targeting and destroying water infrastructure, depriving residents of the water, electricity, and fuel needed to operate vital facilities.
The statement noted the disruption of major water lines and the shutdown of the Deir al-Balah desalination plant, threatening the lives of hundreds of thousands with thirst. The statement emphasized that more than 90% of the water and sanitation infrastructure has been destroyed, with repair teams and necessary equipment prevented from entering.
The Gaza Strip has recorded more than 1.7 million cases of water-related illness, in addition to more than 50 deaths, most of them children, due to dehydration and malnutrition.
The office emphasized that what is happening constitutes a war crime and genocide under international law, calling for immediate intervention by the international community, holding the occupation leaders accountable, and declaring Gaza an environmentally disaster area.
