Gaza municipality: Severe water shortage due to desalination plant destruction
Gaza municipality: Severe water shortage due to desalination plant destruction
Gaza municipality: Severe water shortage due to desalination plant destruction
[Mon, 21 Apr 2025 19:25:35 +0300]

Gaza - Saba:
Gaza Municipality revealed on Monday that large areas in the north and southwest of the city are still suffering from a severe water shortage as a result of the enemy's destruction of the desalination plant in the northwest of the city, in addition to the destruction of wells and water tanks that feed those areas.

The municipality explained in a statement that the Makrout water line currently feeds the city center areas.

The municipality emphasized that it is making efforts to repair the networks in order to deliver water to some areas in the west of the city that can be delivered, which suffer from a shortage of water in light of the destruction of the water sources feeding them.

The municipality noted that it is cooperating with citizens and neighborhood committees to operate private wells for citizens in those areas, to ensure the provision of a minimum amount of water.

The municipality explained that the enemy's destruction of the desalination plant in the northwest of the city, which used to produce about 10,000 cups of desalinated water per day, in addition to the destruction of wells and reservoirs that feed that area, caused a real crisis in the northwestern areas of the city.

It added that it is currently repairing the lines and networks on an initial basis, and conducting tests of the networks after repairs are made to ensure the safety of the network and its ability to deliver water to areas and homes.

The municipality has obtained funding to reconstruct some of the water wells that feed the northwestern areas of the city, such as al-Saftawi and other wells, and expects to start work on them in the next few days.
