Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib, Deputy Head of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council, emphasized that "talk of disarmament is a language of hostility, not patriotism, and an invitation for the Zionist enemy to persist in its aggression."
During his Friday sermon at the Council’s headquarters near the airport, Sheikh Al-Khatib called for "leaving this matter to calm dialogue, away from media grandstanding and political exploitation, and ensuring the decision is a unified national one—not submission to external demands."
He further highlighted that "the government’s credibility today lies in fulfilling its commitments, not in tying reconstruction to the enemy’s withdrawal." While "its ministerial statement is clear, some ministers’ statements contradict it, reflecting their parties’ agendas rather than the people’s interests."
Sheikh Al-Khatib also urged that "all be treated equally" and stressed the need to "restore the state’s authority by respecting its sovereignty and deterring any transgressions by foreign envoys who undermine it."
Concluding his sermon, he noted that nearly six months have passed since the aggression ceased, yet none of the government’s obligations have been met. He warned that the government is now more than ever in need of delivering on its promises, as public trust hangs in the balance—and may soon become a thing of the past.
