The Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas" condemned on Saturday evening the "dangerous US decision" to revoke the legal immunity of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), calling on the American administration to "immediately reverse this decision."
In a statement, Hamas said that "the US Department of Justice's decision to strip UNRWA of its legal immunity once again demonstrates the bias of the US administration toward the policies of the Zionist occupation and its systematic efforts to dismantle UNRWA as a political and humanitarian symbol embodying the right of Palestinian refugees to relief and return to their houses, from which they were forcibly displaced."
The movement urged the international community to "reject and confront this decision, emphasizing the importance of continuing support for UNRWA and preserving its political and legal status as one of the United Nations' institutions."
Hamas added, "We reiterate our call to Washington to halt its blind bias toward the occupation and its crimes, end its active participation in the ongoing aggression against our people—particularly in the Gaza Strip—and work to correct its political stance, which makes it a direct partner in violations of international law and acts of genocide."
The US administration has decided to revoke UNRWA’s legal immunity, no longer recognizing it as part of the United Nations, which opens the door for lawsuits against the agency in American courts.
