Accompanied by university and hospital officials, Dr. al-Bukhaiti inspected the newly equipped Cardiac Catheterization Department, which boasts the most modern cardiac catheterization device in Yemen and is slated to open next week.
He also toured the cardiac care and inpatient wards, the echocardiography unit, the cardiac emergency department, and the Cardiac Surgery and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery departments, which are currently being outfitted with state-of-the-art medical supplies and are expected to become operational within the next two months.
Dr. Salah al-Shawki, Head of the Heart and Cardiac Catheterization Center, and his deputy, Dr. Mohammed al-Houthi, briefed the University rector on the center's medical and therapeutic services and the progress of the new catheterization department's setup. They noted the Cardiac Care Unit's 52-bed capacity and the echocardiogram unit's five devices.
A key focus of the visit was the Egyptian Cardiac Fellowship Center, Yemen's only accredited training facility in cardiology and cardiac surgery.
Dr. al-Bukhaiti observed the training of two cohorts of 30 doctors from across Yemen, supervised by leading specialists. He also reviewed the progress of infrastructure upgrades, including the oxygen network and equipment for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.
Dr. al-Bukhaiti commended the center's management and medical staff for their dedication to treating patients from all socioeconomic backgrounds. He hailed the Heart Center at Kuwait University Hospital as a promising institution capable of achieving local and regional excellence in cardiac medicine and surgery.
The University rector emphasized the importance of high-quality practical, professional, and research training to produce skilled physicians and surgeons. He advocated for collaborative efforts to continuously improve the Heart Center and keep pace with global medical advancements.
During a meeting with Egyptian Cardiology Fellowship students, Dr. al-Bukhaiti praised the center for providing crucial training within Yemen, reducing the need for travel abroad, particularly for female doctors.
He stressed the need for more specialized cardiac centers in Yemen and suggested potential collaboration between the Heart Center at Kuwait University Hospital and al-Thawra Hospital for knowledge sharing and joint procedures via telemedicine.
