Athens – Saba:
The Piraeus Port Workers Union confirmed on Tuesday its rejection of any Greek involvement in supporting Israeli military operations, stating its intention not to unload a container ship carrying a shipment of military equipment bound for Israel.
According to Quds Press, the Indeb union, which represents port workers in the coastal city of Athens, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday: "We will not unload even a single inch of this deadly cargo."
The union added: "Piraeus port workers will not be complicit in this crime. We will not unload military equipment from the Ever Golden ship - no Greek involvement - freedom for Palestine."
According to the Vessel Finder website, which specializes in tracking ship movements, the Ever Golden container ship, owned by a Japanese company and registered under the Panamanian flag, was sailing Tuesday morning off the coast of West Africa and is expected to arrive at the port of Piraeus on July 14.
This move comes in the context of broader labor and popular protests in Greece, rejecting any direct or indirect involvement in supporting the Israeli genocide in Gaza and demanding that the government take a clearer stance on the Palestinian issue.
It is noteworthy that, over the past months, workers at the Greek port of Piraeus have refused to unload ships docked at the port carrying ammunition and military equipment for the Israeli enemy army.
