General Federation of Yemeni Trade Unions Praises Steps Taken by Trade Unions in Greece, UK

Sana'a - Saba:

The General Federation of Yemeni Trade Unions expressed its gratitude for the steps taken by trade unions in Greece and the United Kingdom in rejecting the facilitation of the passage of military shipments bound for the Zionist entity and in imposing a complete ban on arms exports to Israel.

In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the federation praised the labor union at the Port Authority of Piraeus in Greece, which issued a joint statement rejecting the facilitation of military shipments to the Zionist entity and announced plans to hold protest sit-ins.

It also commended the actions of “Unite the Union,” the largest trade union in the UK’s private sector, which overwhelmingly voted in favor of a complete ban on arms exports to Israel. The union supported the right of workers to refuse to manufacture, transport, or handle any military equipment used in genocide and Israeli assaults against the Palestinian people, affirming its commitment to boycott Israeli products and support divestment from companies complicit in crimes against Palestinians.

The statement clarified that these workers were moved by the heinous crimes committed by the Zionist entity against children and women, which stirred their human conscience, prompting them to take a clear stance. It added that the ongoing genocide and starvation of the Palestinian people require a noble position worthy of being recorded in history’s brightest pages.

The General Federation of Yemeni Trade Unions extended its thanks and appreciation to those who took these steps, calling on all port workers around the world—especially those in Arab and Islamic countries, who bear greater responsibility than others—to follow the same path as the unions in Greece and the UK.

It also called on all Arab and Islamic federations and labor unions worldwide to engage with this humanitarian cause and translate it into practical action among the workers of their countries' ports.
