Washington - Saba:
US President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility of a conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin before the 10-day deadline for resolving the crisis in Ukraine expires.
Trump told reporters when asked if he would speak with Putin before the 10-day deadline expires: "We'll see how it goes. We'll have some meetings. We'll see what happens next."
US President Donald Trump stated last Tuesday that "the countdown to the 10-day deadline for a ceasefire in Ukraine begins today."
He added: "The United States wants to reach an agreement with Russia on Ukraine within 10 days, or we will impose tariffs on imports, and the countdown to a ceasefire in Ukraine begins today."
Trump indicated that "if negotiations fail, he intends to impose tariffs on imports, but he is unsure whether this will affect Russia."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Friday that the Kyiv regime had agreed to Russia's proposal to resume the Istanbul talks thanks to Trump's insistence.
The Russian Foreign Ministry quoted Lavrov's remarks, in which he added that the substantive discussion on the Ukrainian issue between Moscow and Washington, which has been ongoing since the beginning of the year, is very useful and yielding results.
