The Confederation of African Football (CAF) issued today, Friday, the official ranking of African clubs for the year 2025, ahead of the draws for the new season’s CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions.
Egypt’s Al Ahly continued to lead the African clubs ranking with 78 points, followed by South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in second place with 62 points, and Tunisia’s Espérance de Tunis in third with 57 points.
Morocco’s Renaissance Berkane ranked fourth with 52 points, while Tanzania’s Simba SC came fifth with 48 points.
Egyptian club Pyramids secured the sixth position with 47 points after winning the Champions League title last season, followed by Zamalek in seventh place with 42 points. Al Masry of Port Said ranked 23rd with 14 points.
The draws for the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup will take place tomorrow, Saturday, and will be broadcast live on CAF’s official YouTube channel.
The preliminary rounds will begin on September 19, 2025, followed by the second preliminary round on October 17. The group stage will start on November 21, leading up to the knockout rounds commencing on March 13, 2026.
In the upcoming CAF Champions League season, Egypt will be represented by Al Ahly as league champions and Pyramids as runners-up.
For the CAF Confederation Cup, Zamalek and Al Masry will participate after finishing third and fourth respectively in the Egyptian Premier League.
