Yemen, UN discusses UN activities in Red Sea ports

HODEIDA, October 26. 2022 (Saba) - Minister of Transport Abdulwahab al-Durrah on Wednesday discussed with head of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeida Agreement “UNMHA” - Chairman of the Redeployment Coordination Committee Maj. Gen. Michael Perry in Hodeida province aspects related to the mission’s tasks with regard to the ports of Hodeida.

The meeting, which included head of the Red Sea Ports Corporation, Captain Mohammed Ishaq, touched on the activities accomplished by the mission during the last period within the framework of the Stockholm Agreement.

The meeting reviewed the violations of the countries of the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression and their continuous tools, including the Stockholm Agreement, to put obstacles and prevent the entry of container ships and oil and gas derivatives to the port of Hodeida, in order to serve the goals of the countries of the aggression that are still practicing a policy of systematic starvation with the intention of aggravating the humanitarian economic situation of the people of Yemen.

The meeting discussed the status of the projects that were agreed upon with the United Nations Development Program to implement, including those related to providing the port of Hodeida from development projects, maintenance of boats, equipment and machinery, and supplying it with bridge cranes, which are the main pillar of the operational process in the port, which the aggression deliberately destroyed from the first sight of its aggression against Yemen. .

Minister al-Durrah stressed the need for the United Nations to play its role in the humanitarian aspects, including the permanent and continuous opening of Sana'a International Airport and the port of Hodeida without conditions or restrictions.

He expressed his regret at the delay in starting the process of replacing Safer floating tank, in accordance with the memorandum of understanding, especially after the United Nations collected the necessary funds for the project.

He stressed that the situation of the tank portends a catastrophe in the event of a delay in replacing it with a new tank.

Al-Durrah pointed out that the National Salvation Government is still committed to implement the Stockholm Agreement, while the aggression places multiple obstacles, which confirms their lack of seriousness in heading for peace, despite the false allegations of the aggression countries in the media about their approach to peace and ending the suffering of Yemenis.

In turn, the head of the Red Sea Ports Corporation reviewed the emergency needs of the corporation's ports, including the maintenance of the locomotive lynching "Ras Issa" and other equipment and mechanisms that are about to go out of service or have already gone out, which will lead to the cessation of the operational process that will cause a lot of harm to the Yemeni people.

He stressed the importance of supporting the Corporation ports, according to what was discussed and approved with the development program, pointing out that one of the core missions of the UN mission, in accordance with the Stockholm Agreement, is to lift the siege on the corporation's ports, aid the flow of aid without hindrance, and provide the necessary support to the corporation to carry out its humanitarian work.

Captain Ishaq called on the UN mission to obligate the development program to its commitments regarding the reactivation of the institution to carry out its service and humanitarian role, on which the Yemeni people depend largely on to provide their needs of the necessary foodstuffs.

He called on the mission to play its role in taking a firm decision to prevent maritime piracy and the detention of oil and food ships, given that the Stockholm Agreement is primarily humanitarian.

He considered the international silence, which exceeded the betrayal of the human suffering of the Yemeni people, was considered a cover-up for the crimes of the aggression and a participation in committing more war crimes against the Yemeni people.

For his part, the head of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeida Agreement and the Chairman of the Redeployment Committee, reviewed the mission's efforts to implement the requirements of the Stockholm Agreement with regard to the ports of Hodeida.

General Perry pointed out the mission's keenness to implement the agreement with the United Nations Development Program to rehabilitate the ports of Hodeida, stressing his deep awareness of the humanitarian services provided by the port of Hodeida.
