DAMASCUS July 15. 2023 (SABA) - A senior U.S. defense official revealed that a Russian reconnaissance aircraft flew over a U.S. base in Syria for a long time without U.S. forces being able to intercept it.
Last night, CNN quoted the official as saying that the Antonov N-30 aircraft had flown back and forth several times over the Al-Tanf base and surrounding area.
He added: "The United States forces were unable to intercept the Russian aircraft in a timely manner because of where the United States aircraft were stationed at that time.
The US official reported that his country had daily sorties determined by the number of fighters available, fuel supply aircraft, as well as activity in Syria and where they were needed.
These tables are routinely changed to unpredictable, so the Russians were not aware of the lack of airspace coverage.
The US official stated that a strong protest was directed at Russia via the clash prevention line established in Syria.
