TEHRAN September 27. 2023 (Saba) - Iran's ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Saeed Iravani has called for the necessity of providing neutral humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and lifting the unilateral embargo imposed in order to improve the economic situation Afghanistan.
According to Tasnim International News Agency today, Iravani's speech came during the UN Security Council meeting held on Tuesday in New York on Afghanistan.
He pointed to the deteriorating humanitarian situation inside Afghanistan and the increase in the number of Afghans in need of urgent aid, criticizing the scarcity of basic programs to allocate humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
Iravani said Iran emphasizes the moral duty that burdens the international community to support Afghanistan and demands that collective efforts be made to revive the economic situation in Afghanistan, provide safe conditions for the return of Afghan refugees, and ensure the security of the region.
The Iranian diplomat expressed his concern about terrorist attacks, drug smuggling, educational restrictions imposed on Afghan women, and the dangers threatening cultural heritage inside Afghanistan.
Iravani continued saying Iran declares its commitment to its promises to support Afghanistan and cooperate with neighboring countries in order to maintain peace and stability in this country.
Iran's ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations concluded his speech by stressing the need for constructive cooperation with officials in Afghanistan, welcoming regional initiatives aimed at dialogue and cooperation.
