HAJJAH May 05. 2024 (Saba) - Direct and indirect losses and damage to the water and sanitation sector in Hajjah province as a result of the aggression over a period of nine years amounted to 5 million and 545 thousand dollars.

For 9 years, the brutal aggression warplane targeted Yemen in a hysterical manner, for 9 years, the corporation’s buildings, warehouses, tanks, liquefaction lines, hangars, means of transportation, and electricity transformers.

The aggression also caused indirect damage to the institution, represented by the inability to collect the debt, which exceeded two billion riyals, in addition to the high cost and expenses of repair and maintenance of the damage resulting from the criminal raids.

A report issued by the corporation, received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), stated that the value of the initial losses as a result of the aggression’s direct raids on the water and sanitation sector amounted to one million and 772 thousand dollars, and indirect damages exceeded one billion riyals.

The report stated that the aggression against Yemen completely destroyed all components of the water sector and project, including tower tanks, the branch headquarters, and warehouses in Haradh District, at a cost of one million and 200 thousand dollars.

The report stated that the value of the direct damage in Abs District as a result of the barbaric aggression amounted to 525 thousand dollars, indicating that the aggression’s warplane completely destroyed the main liquefaction tank in Abs with a capacity of 500 cubic meters at a cost of 100 thousand dollars, the building of Abs branch at a cost of 150 thousand dollars, and the branch’s stores with materials for a total of 120 thousand dollars.

The aggression also targeted the equipment hanger with a number of equipment, “buckles and means of transportation,” at a cost of $75,000, in addition to partially destroying a 400-cubic-meter liquefaction tank at a cost of $80,000 by 60 percent.

According to the report, the Saudi-American-Emirati aggression warplane destroyed the Zafar tank in the city of Hajjah, with a capacity of 150 cubic meters, at a cost of 35 thousand dollars, in addition to destroying the electricity transformers of a large, ferocious well as a result of the bombing of the bridge, for a total of 12 thousand dollars.

The Director General of the local corporation in the province, Engineer Amin Al-Mughalis, stated that the indirect damages were represented by the inability to collect the corporation’s debt due to the interruption of salaries, the high cost and expenses of repair and maintenance of the damage resulting from the aggression, in addition to the loss of water, which led to large financial losses and a lack of confidence of subscribers in the corporation. As a result of the lack of continuity of service as it was previously.

He pointed out that the Corporation bears great burdens and financial expenses to ensure the continuation of water , sanitation services and their delivery to citizens and alleviate their suffering despite all the circumstances , widen the gap between the Corporation and subscribers.

He stressed that the corporation, in its general administration and branches, is working with all its might to provide water to its subscribers, especially in the province center and the Tihama areas known for high temperatures and humidity.

The Director General of the Corporation appreciated the attention given by the revolutionary leadership, represented by the Revolution , Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and the Chairman of the Supreme Political Council, Field Marshal Mahdi al-Mashat, to the water sector in the governorate.

He touched on the efforts made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. Rashid Abu Lahoum, and the leadership of the province and the ministry to overcome all the difficulties facing the water sector and the role of the technical staff in the continuity of service provision.
