OCCUPIED AL-QUDS July 15. 2024 (Saba) - In a distressing turn of events, a Nazi Occupation forced a Palestinian woman to self-demolish her residence in Ain al-Loza neighborhood of Silwan, located south of the revered al-Aqsa Mosque.

The decision came after repeated threats from occupation police, who had previously stormed the house and warned of impending demolition if compliance was not met.

The citizen, a mother of five who has resided in the modest three-room house since 2008, opted for self-demolition to avoid the exorbitant costs imposed by the municipality in case of forced demolition. The property spans approximately 100 square meters.

Under the guise of lacking proper permits, the enemy authorities routinely compel Palestinian residents in occupied al-Quds to self-demolish their homes. Refusal often results in punitive demolitions carried out by occupation bulldozers, further burdening homeowners with hefty fines.

This incident adds to the troubling statistics documented by al-Quds governorate, which reported 127 demolition and bulldozing operations in the region during the first half of this year. These operations included 42 instances of forced self-demolitions and 73 demolitions conducted directly by occupation forces, along with 12 bulldozing operations.

In a separate incident, at dawn on Monday, enemy military forces demolished a fuel station in Hizma, a town north of occupied al-Quds.

Eyewitnesses recounted that occupation military bulldozers razed the al-Salam gas station, owned by al-Khatib family. The demolition prompted confrontations with local residents, during which occupation forces deployed tear gas bombs, stun grenades, and live ammunition in the vicinity of homes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The destruction of essential infrastructure like the gas station exacerbates tensions in the region, further highlighting the ongoing struggles faced by Palestinian communities amidst escalating hostilities with Israeli authorities.
