LONDON August 17. 2024 (Saba) - The fire department in the British capital London announced that a large fire broke out on Saturday in the Somerset House building, a well-known cultural and entertainment center in the center of the capital.
Reuters quoted the department as saying in a statement: "We received a report today of a large fire in part of the roof of the Somerset House building in the center of the capital, which necessitated the direction of 15 fire engines, and about 100 members of the fire department to extinguish the fire."
The department said its teams were continuing to work to control the fire, which remains of unknown causes.
Videos circulating on social media showed fire and smoke on the roof of the building, which dates back to the 16th century and is now used as an exhibition venue, home to one of the world's greatest art collections.
