SANA'A August 21. 2024 (Saba) - Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi, during his meeting with the head of the Presidential Committee for the Assessment and Treatment of Flood Damage in Hodeida, Raymah and Hajjah Provinces, Dr. Hussein Maqbouli, reviewed on Wednesday the results of the committee's field work during the past days in the affected areas in the three Provinces.

The Prime Minister received from Dr. Maqbouli a detailed report on the overall work of assessing and treating the damage that is still ongoing due to the continued flow of floods into Tihama Plain from the western mountainous highlands.
The head of the committee explained that the inventory process included human and material losses to infrastructure, housing and agricultural crops, with financial losses determined at the level of the affected directorates.

He indicated that the total number of families affected, completely and partially, to date in the three provinces amounted to 33,123 families.

Dr. Maqbouli reported that the number of deaths reached 86 people. He pointed out that the field teams, which include works, waste removal, road opening, civil defense and general emergencies, continue their field work, which contributed to avoiding further losses in lives and property.

The Prime Minister praised the efforts made by the Chairman of the Presidential Committee and various concerned and relevant authorities and field work teams that had a vital impact in providing relief to those affected and limiting the damage.

He stressed that the government will not hesitate to carry out its duties towards addressing the damage.

He pointed out that the extent of the material damage requires the combined efforts of the official side and the private sector to address it, specifically what is related to the affected families.

Al-Rahwi urged the committee to continue its work and supervise and follow up on all field committees and submit reports on the field work results to be presented to the Ministers Council.
