HAJJAH August 27. 2024 (Saba) - The electricity sector in Hajjah governorate has been severely damaged as a result of the brutal Saudi-American-Emirati aggression on Yemen for nine years.

The electricity sector, like other vital sectors, has suffered cumulative financial and economic losses as a result of the direct targeting of facilities and infrastructure to disrupt public services or as a result of the interruption of service since the beginning of the unjust barbaric aggression on Yemen until today.

The direct damages suffered by the electricity sector in the governorate reflect the extent to which the aggressor countries are devoid of the minimum level of ethics, arrogance and haughtiness that accompany the forces of global hegemony and arrogance and the tyrants of this era led by America and its tools against the Yemeni people.

The aggression deliberately destroyed the infrastructure of the electricity sector and what it possesses of stations, control buildings, generation units, modern equipment, generators, engines and the electrical network with the poles in Haradh and Midi, completely destroying it.

It also directly targeted control, generation and transmission stations, substations, projects, warehouses, etc., transmission lines, transformers, distribution networks and accessories.

A report issued by the Hajjah Region Electricity Authority, received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), revealed the extent of direct damage to the most affected Haradh, Midi and Abs power plants, and the economic losses resulting from that since the beginning of the barbaric aggression until today.

The report explained that the direct damages of the aggression on power plants, transmission stations, substations, projects, warehouses, etc., transmission lines, transformers, distribution networks and accessories are estimated at 3 billion, 636 million, 973 thousand and 670 riyals.

The cumulative economic and financial losses, according to the report, due to the interruption of service and the provision of electricity to citizens due to the aggression for nine years, amounted to 4 billion, 207 million, 52 thousand and 560 riyals.

Haradh Power Plant

The report explained that the barbaric aggression destroyed the control building, the station and warehouses in the Haradh Power Plant and caused damage to three SKL power units with capacities of 1500KVA, 1000KW and 2MW and two MTU power units, each with a capacity of 1000KVA.

The criminal aggression raids also damaged, according to the report, two Mitsubishi Arabah power units with a capacity of 1000KW, a Caterpillar CAT power unit with a capacity of 1000KVA and two MTU generator engines.

Among the direct damages to the Haradh power plant, according to the same report, was the destruction of 4 main diesel storage tanks, each with a capacity of 60,000 liters, two underground diesel storage tanks, each with a capacity of 45,000 liters, and 356 types of spare parts and materials stored in the warehouses.

The aggression destroyed two 0.4/11kv step-up transformers, each with a capacity of 1500KVA, 11kV transmission networks and lines of different sizes with a length of 20 km, and 0.4kV distribution networks of different sizes with a length of 40 km, distribution panels, in addition to energy monitoring meters and service wires.

The Hajjah Electricity report indicated that the cost of rehabilitating what was destroyed by the aggression in the Haradh power plant is estimated at two billion, 972 million, 304 thousand, and 628 riyals, of which 220 million, 538 thousand, and 264 riyals is the value of 356 items of spare parts, materials, and fuel stored in the station's warehouses according to the purchase cost at the time.

The economic and financial losses resulting from the cessation of electricity generation and service provision to citizens, according to the report, since the date of targeting on August 26, 2016, amounted to two billion, 338 million, 944 thousand, and 660 riyals, at a rate of 259 million, 882 thousand, and 740 riyals per year.

Midi Power Plant

The aggression also destroyed, according to the report, two main diesel tanks, each with a capacity of 40 thousand liters, and 47 types of spare parts, materials and fuel stored in the station's warehouses, and destroyed the control building, the station and the warehouses.

The aggression destroyed two 0.4/11kv step-up transformers with a capacity of 1115KVA each, 11kV transmission networks and lines of different sizes with a length of 12 km, 0.4kV distribution networks of different sizes with a length of 20 km, distribution panels, in addition to energy monitoring meters and service wires.

The cost of rehabilitating the direct damages resulting from the aggression in the Midi power station, according to the report, amounted to 664 million, 669 thousand and 42 riyals, of which 62 million, 46 thousand and 165 riyals were the value of 47 types of spare parts, materials and fuel stored in the station's warehouses according to the purchase cost at the time.

Abbs Power Plant

The report added that although Abbs Power Plant was not subjected to aggression, the cessation of electricity generation and service provision to citizens as a result of the aggression caused financial and economic losses since the beginning of the aggression on Yemen until the restoration of service at the end of 2019.

The report indicated that the economic and financial losses due to the cessation of electricity generation for five years amounted to one billion, 137 million, 747 thousand and 100 riyals, at a rate of 227 million, 549 thousand and 420 riyals.
