Hodeida - Saba:
A farmer from the Zabid district in Hodeida Governorate has innovated machines for producing feed for poultry and livestock.
Farmer Murad Ater has developed machines for locally producing poultry feed, marking a significant step toward reducing reliance on imported feed, which costs millions of dollars. In addition, he has created machines for grinding, crushing, and mixing feed leftovers and waste, transforming them into palatable materials for livestock.
In recognition of this innovation, engineer Hilal Al-Jashari, a specialist in the poultry and value chain, commended this achievement and highlighted its significance for the poultry sector. He stressed the importance of encouraging and supporting efforts to develop and expand the production of large quantities of poultry feed and feed supplements in the future.
He explained that one of the challenges faced by poultry farmers is the rising cost of poultry feed. However, this farmer has successfully learned how to produce his poultry feed. His process begins with sourcing raw materials, such as grains and flour, and includes milling, batch mixing, and blending materials. He also incorporates mixing liquids and pelletizing the feed. To complete the process, he cools the product, screens it, and packages it. If resources permit, he plans to market the feed in the future.
Mohammed Obaid, the president of the Zabid Association, expressed the association's commitment to supporting and encouraging innovations by connecting associations and poultry farmers within its poultry unit.
He explained that the farmer, Ater, is recognized as a model for his dedication to agriculture and livestock and poultry management. He considers his successful innovation of feed production machines a ray of hope for overcoming challenges and achieving self-sufficiency.
He urged poultry companies, especially those that depend on importing feed and production inputs, to encourage and support such innovations.
