The second training course on value chains for agricultural crops and livestock concluded on Thursday at the General Authority for Agricultural Research and Extension.
The course, which lasted 40 days, aimed to qualify 38 trainees who graduated from the faculties of agriculture at Sana'a, Dhamar and Ibb universities in the preparation of value chain studies, field survey forms in this field, in addition to methods of implementing field surveys.
At the conclusion, the head of the Agricultural Research and Extension Authority, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alafi, praised the efforts of the trainees, trainers and supervisors from the research staff for the success of the long course.
Dr. Alalfi stressed that the study of value chains is a positive step in identifying strengths and weaknesses, threats, and opportunities for improvement and development of the product, as well as its importance in focusing on calculating costs and revenues, including determining the return to the farmer from the production of this crop or product.
Al-Alafi called on the trainees to apply the knowledge and skills they received in the field in order to contribute to the advancement of the agricultural sector , enhance efforts aimed at expanding production and achieving food security, in accordance with the directives of the revolutionary and political leadership in this regard.
During the course, which was attended by Dr. Abdullah Silan, Advisor to the President of the Authority, Dr. Abed Al-Bil, Deputy President of the Authority, Dr. Hassan Al-Khoulani, Director of the National Agricultural Training Center, Dr. Amin Rajeh, pointed out that the course was implemented in three stages, during which trainees received scientific knowledge about the concepts of value chain analysis for crops, plant and animal agricultural products, types of field surveys, and data collection methods.
He said that the course included knowledge and skills on scientific writing of reports and scientific papers, analyzing data using statistical programs, practical application on field surveys, downloading forms, entering data, analyzing them statistically, interpreting the results and writing reports on the study of the value chain of each crop or product.
He pointed out that the training process included a 15-day field trip to study 20 agricultural crops and animal products in their areas of distribution in different provinces.
