Ibb - Saba:
A technical team from the General Authority for Water Resources, the Local Corporation for Water and Sanitation, the Agricultural Sector Offices, and the Geological Survey Authority in Ibb province has begun the survey and evaluation of water resources and agricultural lands in Maitam Basin area.
The survey aims to assess agricultural lands and their water needs, study the current water situation, and provide scientific solutions to address challenges, particularly the issue of using unsuitable water for irrigation.
During the launch, province undersecretary Harith al-Mulaiki, along with the Directors of the General Authority for Water Resources in the province Mohammed al-Wurafi, and the Local Corporation for Water and Sanitation, Engineer Kamal al-Qatani, heard feedback from farmers who shared issues related to irrigation water.
The team emphasized the importance of preventing the use of sewage water for irrigation due to its harmful effects on soil, crops, and overall health.
Undersecretary al-Mulaiki highlighted the significance of the field survey in evaluating the region’s water situation, stressing that it would help address farmers' challenges. He also confirmed that strict measures would be implemented to stop the use of sewage water for irrigation.
Director of the General Authority for Water Resources in the province stated that the team would conduct a comprehensive study to identify and evaluate water resources and agricultural lands, ensuring effective strategies are developed to meet farmers' irrigation needs.
The director also underscored the importance of cooperation between stakeholders and the community to foster agricultural development and optimize water resource use.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation emphasized the corporation’s commitment to finding innovative solutions to the challenges posed by using sewage water in agriculture.
