Gaza - Saba:
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) denied, on Thursday, the false rumors published in the enemy's media regarding the society winning a tender conducted by the "Zionist" Ministry of Health to replace the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem.
The society confirmed in a press statement the firm position of its absolute refusal to be an alternative to UNRWA, despite several parties communicating with the society to carry out some of the agency's tasks or receive funds that were allocated to it, the most recent of which was the attempt by the "Israeli" Ministry of Health to hand over the society's branch in Quds, Bab al-Zawiya Clinic, affiliated with UNRWA, in exchange for financial support, which the society categorically rejected.
Last October 2024, the Israeli Knesset finally approved the ban on UNRWA activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, and the decision will come into effect 3 months after the vote, i.e. the end of January 2025.
UNRWA was established by a decision of the United Nations General Assembly in 1949 after the Palestinian Nakba 1948; and began its operations on May 1, 1950; to assist Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation (Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank, including East Al-Quds, and the Gaza Strip) until a just solution to their issue is reached.
