Amman – Saba:
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reaffirmed his country’s steadfast stance that the two-state solution is the only path to achieving peace and reiterated Jordan’s unchanging rejection of forced displacement.
In a statement on Sunday, Safadi emphasized, "The solution to the Palestinian issue lies in a Palestinian resolution. Jordan is for Jordanians, and Palestine is for Palestinians. We look forward to working with the new U.S. administration and will support efforts toward peace in the region."
He added, "We have held discussions on solidifying the ceasefire in Gaza and delivering aid to the region."
Safadi further noted, "We have agreed with the UN coordinator to enhance cooperation for delivering aid to Gaza. We will work with all our partners in the region to take clear steps toward achieving peace."
He stressed that "the priority now is to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza and ensure uninterrupted aid delivery to its residents as a prelude to commencing reconstruction efforts."
Earlier today, former U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a plan for the "cleansing" of Gaza, stating his intention for Egypt and Jordan to accept Palestinians from the region.
Trump claimed he had discussed the matter with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and planned to address it with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, "I’d like Egypt to take people in, and I’d like Jordan to take people in." He added, "We’re talking about 1.5 million people to ‘cleanse’ the entire region. As you know, this area has seen countless conflicts over the centuries. I don’t know, but something has to happen."
Trump suggested that relocating Gaza’s residents could be "temporary or long-term," adding, "It’s a completely devastated place now. Everything is destroyed, and people are dying there."
He continued, "So, I prefer to engage with several Arab countries and build housing in a different location where they might live peacefully."
The new Trump administration has pledged "steadfast support" for the Israeli entity but has not detailed its Middle East policy.
It is worth noting that most of Gaza’s 2.2 million residents have been displaced multiple times during the genocide waged by the Zionist enemy since October 7, 2023.
Between October 7, 2023, and January 19, 2025, the enemy forces, with U.S. support, committed a genocide in Gaza that resulted in approximately 159,000 Palestinian casualties, including women and children, with over 14,000 missing. This tragedy stands as one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
