UN: Zionist enemy left behind destruction in Gaza that we have not seen since World War II

New York - Saba:

UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Housing Balakrishnan Rajagopal has said that the Zionist entity by committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, left behind destruction in the Strip that we have not seen the likes of since World War II.

Rajagopal added in a press statement Thursday that the destruction in the Gaza Strip is "unprecedented in terms of its scope, brutality and enormous impact on the Palestinians living there."

He pointed out that the Zionist enemy completely destroyed more than 80% of the homes in Gaza, "which is not similar to what happened when the German city of Dresden was destroyed."

Rajagopal explained that the Palestinians of Gaza face huge challenges, such as rescuing valuables from the rubble, removing debris and rebuilding their lives.

He stressed that "the priority in Gaza now is to provide humanitarian aid so that people can live when they return," and stressed the urgent need to access shelter in Gaza.

Rajagopal said that after the Palestinians in Gaza set up their tents and homes with the help of aid, reconstruction plans must be put into effect.

He stressed the need to remove the rubble in Gaza first, in light of the danger of unexploded ordnance.

The UN rapporteur said that "what happened in Gaza is a real genocide because it creates conditions that make life impossible and make Gaza uninhabitable."

Rajagopal added "If you make an area or a place uninhabitable for the people who live in it, this is in fact an act of genocide."

He stressed that the existence of a ceasefire agreement "does not mean that the genocide has stopped."

Rajagopal added "The genocide continues as long as Gaza is uninhabitable for its people, and as long as there are conditions that could lead to the elimination of the Palestinian people in whole or in part."
