A recent poll in the United States has revealed that 64 percent of Americans oppose President Donald Trump’s plan to seize the Gaza Strip and displace its Palestinian inhabitants.
The poll, conducted by the American organization Data for Progress between February 8 and 9, 2025, surveyed 1,200 American voters about their stance on Trump’s controversial plan. Of those surveyed, 47 percent strongly opposed the plan, while 17 percent expressed partial opposition.
The opposition was widespread across political lines: 85 percent of Democrats, 63 percent of independents, and 43 percent of Republicans were against the proposal. Additionally, 69 percent of respondents opposed sending U.S. troops to the Middle East as part of the plan.
Reactions in the U.S. have been mixed, with many Americans viewing Trump’s plan as ignorant of the complexities of the Arab-Zionist conflict. Some have even described it as “absolute madness,” fearing it could lead to endless conflict in the region.
In an article for The New York Times, American writer Thomas Friedman criticized Trump’s proposal, calling it "the most stupid and dangerous of any Middle East peace initiative ever put forward by an American president."
He also expressed concern over the speed with which Trump’s aides and cabinet members approved the plan, noting that they appeared to be "just puppets with bobbing heads," lacking knowledge of its details.
