Munich - Saba:
At least 28 people were injured, some seriously, when a car ran over a crowd in the city of Munich on Thursday.
A German police spokesman said the suspect in the incident is a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker. He added that the incident, which occurred just ten days before Germany's general election, injured at least 28 people, at a time when migration is prominent in candidates' campaigns.
German newspaper Bild reported that police are working to determine whether the driver of the car, a Mini Cooper, deliberately ran over the crowd or lost control due to confusion between the gas and brake pedals.
Police confirmed via X that they have arrested the attacker and do not believe he poses a further threat, but declined to comment on whether the incident was intentional or accidental.
The Munich Security Conference is set to kick off on Friday, with top officials, including Vance and Zielinski, expected to arrive later in the day. Police continue to carry out a large-scale security operation near the city's central train station.
