New York - Saba:
Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini said Tuesday that stopping support for UNRWA will deepen the suffering of the Palestinians, stressing that their rights will remain, including the right of return, even if the agency's work is stopped.
Lazzarini confirmed in a press statement that UNRWA needs additional emergency support to be able to continue working.
He pointed out that the collapse of the agency will create a dangerous vacuum in the occupied Palestinian territories and in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
The UN official pointed out that 50,000 children attend UNRWA schools, noting that the agency provides health services to 100,000 people in the West Bank.
He explained that the Zionist enemy authorities are obstructing the entry and exit of individuals through Kerem Abu Salem crossing, south of the Gaza Strip.
