UNICEF has issued a stark warning about the "extremely alarming" situation facing Palestinian children, highlighting their exposure to "extreme fear and anxiety" and the devastating consequences of denied humanitarian aid and protection.
The warning came in a statement released on Sunday by Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, following a field visit to the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Beigbeder described the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, including East al-Quds, as "extremely alarming," affecting nearly all 2.4 million children. He emphasized the severe impact of the crisis, with children living in fear, facing denial of basic necessities, displacement, destruction, and even death.
He highlighted that approximately one million children in Gaza lack essential survival needs due to restrictions on humanitarian aid entry.
UNICEF reiterated that "children must not be killed, injured, or displaced," and urged all parties to uphold their obligations under international law. The organization called for the fulfillment of basic needs, protection of civilians, and the "rapid and widespread flow of humanitarian aid
