Geneva - Saba:
A World Meteorological Organization report revealed that 2023 saw record atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations reach 420 parts per million, the highest level in the past 800,000 years.
Methane and nitrous oxide levels also rose, reaching 265% and 125% of their 1750 levels.
The report indicated that this increase contributed to record temperatures in 2023 and 2024, as the El Niño phenomenon exacerbated the heat.
Climate change has also exacerbated humanitarian crises, with 2024 recording the highest number of displacements in 16 years, in addition to significant economic losses.
