Washington - Saba:
The United States announced on Sunday the immediate revocation of all entry visas for South Sudanese citizens, in addition to halting the issuance of any new visas for them, due to "Juba's refusal to accept its deported citizens from the US in a timely manner."
"It is time for the transitional government of South Sudan to stop exploiting the United States," US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement published by the US Department of State.
"Enforcing our national immigration laws is critical to the national security and public safety of the United States, and every country must accept the return of its citizens in a timely manner when another country, including the United States, seeks to deport them," he added.
He pointed out that "given the transitional government of South Sudan's failure to fully adhere to this principle, the State Department is taking action, effective immediately, to revoke all visas held by South Sudanese passport holders and prevent any further visa issuance to prevent their entry into the United States."
Rubio also affirmed that "the United States is prepared to review these measures when South Sudan fully cooperates with the United States."
In his inaugural address on January 20, US President Donald Trump promised to immediately halt the entry of illegal immigrants into the United States and begin the process of deporting millions of illegal immigrants.
