Tunisia - Saba:
On Monday, the Tunisian capital and various governorates of the Republic witnessed massive public marches condemning the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and in solidarity with their legitimate struggle against the Israeli killing machine.
According to the Palestinian WAFA News Agency, these marches came in response to the calls of several civil society organizations and associations, unions, and student unions, and as part of the Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The General Union of Tunisian Students also called for the marches, with widespread participation from university and institute students from across the country.
The marches started in front of institutes and universities across Tunisia, concentrating on Habib Bourguiba Avenue in front of the Municipal Theater in downtown Tunis. Protesters raised Palestinian and Tunisian flags and chanted slogans affirming the unity of destiny and popular solidarity with the Palestinian cause, while rejecting the crimes of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank.
Slogans were chanted in support of Palestine, denouncing the inactive international position in the face of the ongoing massacres, and emphasizing that victory is inevitable for the steadfast Palestinian people.
During the march, student Fares Khaled, from the Higher School of Science and Design Technologies in the Dendane district of Bardo, was martyred after falling while attempting to attach the Palestinian flag to one of the institute's masts. The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Tunisia mourned the martyred student, praising his high national spirit and genuine solidarity.
The marches, as a whole, affirmed that the Palestinian cause has always been and will always remain alive in the conscience of the Tunisian people, and that the popular struggle against the Israeli enemy enjoys broad popular support from all segments of Tunisian society.
