Thomas Countryman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Arms Control Association, revealed on Tuesday that the "Golden Dome" defense system that Washington is developing could be easily overcome by Russia or China.
The expert, who served as Acting Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security in 2016-2017, emphasized in a webinar that the "Golden Dome" system will never work.
"The Trump administration's expansion of the idea of limited defense against some limited threats and trying to turn that into an impenetrable shield to protect the entire United States from any missile-related threats is completely unrealistic," he said.
On March 22, CNN quoted sources as saying that US military experts are working to urgently develop the "Golden Dome" missile defense system to protect the country from long-range missile strikes.
The sources confirmed that the White House is ready to provide any funding required to create this missile shield, and the Trump administration has tasked officials with assessing the necessary budget for the project and including it in the federal budget for the period 2026-2030.
