New York - Saba:
The heads of several UN agencies called for a resumption of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, citing the deteriorating humanitarian situation facing the Strip's population.
The statement read: "We are witnessing military actions in Gaza that demonstrate a complete disregard for human life. New Israeli displacement orders have forced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flee once again, without safe haven."
Senior UN officials added that more than 2.1 million people are once again "trapped" with the collapse of the ceasefire agreement.
The statement's authors summarized their demands as: "Protection of civilians; Facilitation of humanitarian assistance efforts; Release of prisoners; Resumption of the ceasefire."
The statement was signed by UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher, UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell, UNRWA Director-General Philippe Lazzarini, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain, and UNOPS Director-General Jorge Moreira da Silva.
The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced on Monday that the death toll from the Israeli aggression on the Strip has risen to 50,752 and 115,475 wounded, since October 7, 2023.
Israeli airstrikes continued on Monday, the 21st day of the resumption of the aggression on Gaza, with deadly airstrikes that have left dozens dead and wounded.
