Washington - (Saba):
A recent study from Baylor University in the United States revealed that older adults' use of technology, such as smartphone and messaging apps, may reduce their risk of dementia by up to 58%.
The researchers analyzed data from 57 previous studies involving more than 411,000 people over the age of 50. They found a link between technology use and improved cognitive abilities, as well as a 26-34% reduction in cognitive decline.
The researchers indicated that technology may stimulate the brain through learning and interaction and foster social connections, which in turn contribute to protecting mental health. Although the study does not prove a causal relationship, its findings highlight the importance of encouraging older adults to engage with technology as a means of enhancing cognition and independence.
