Algeria - (Saba):
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has inscribed a rare manuscript preserved in the Algerian National Library on the International Memory of the World Register.
Algeria's nomination of the fourth book, The Canon of Medicine, highlights the scientific and historical value of this work, which documents the development of medicine in the Middle Ages. It was written by physician Muwaffaq al-Din Ibn al-Mutran, who was the personal physician of Saladin, one of the most prominent leaders in Islamic history.
The manuscript is a testament to the scientific exchange between Islamic and Christian civilizations and embodies a shared human heritage, according to the Algerian newspaper An-Nahar.
The Algerian Ministry of Culture affirmed that this recognition represents global appreciation for Algeria's documentary heritage and reflects Algeria's commitment to preserving human memory.
This achievement also falls within UNESCO's objectives of protecting documentary heritage and ensuring its continuity for future generations.
