For the first time ever, China has become the world leader in total nuclear power capacity, according to a report released by the China Nuclear Energy Administration (CNA) on Sunday.
The report indicated that China currently has 102 nuclear power units in operation, under construction, and approved, with a total installed capacity of 113 million kilowatts. In terms of total nuclear power capacity, China has become the world's leading producer of nuclear power for the first time.
The CNA added in its report that China currently has 28 nuclear power units under construction with a total installed capacity of 33.65 million kilowatts, adding that Beijing has ranked first in the world in terms of installed capacity for 18 consecutive years.
The report added: "China has 58 nuclear power units in commercial operation, with a total installed capacity of 60.96 million kilowatts. Furthermore, nuclear power generation in our country continues to grow."
In 2024, the total energy production from operating power plants in China reached 444.7 million kilowatt-hours, representing 4.72% of the country's total energy production, ranking China second in the world in total nuclear energy production, according to the China National Nuclear Authority.
