Sana'a - Saba:
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources affirmed the continuation of the ban on importing frozen chicken, as part of efforts to protect local production, support national output, and encourage small-scale poultry farmers.
In a statement obtained by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the ministry explained that this decision aligns with ongoing efforts to achieve self-sufficiency, in response to directives from the revolutionary leadership and the implementation of instructions from the President of the Supreme Political Council. It also follows the program of the Government of Change and Construction aimed at reducing import costs.
The statement clarified that the ban remains in effect and that no shipments of frozen chicken will be allowed into the country. It emphasized the importance of unifying national efforts to safeguard local production, ensure market stability, provide healthy and safe alternatives for consumers.
The Ministry of Agriculture commended initiatives to purchase and stock local chicken as an alternative to imported products, considering this step a direct support for small-scale farmers and an effective contribution to market stability. It also highlighted the development of the poultry sector as a fundamental pillar of the national economy and food security.
The ministry noted that the private sector’s responsiveness in purchasing local production reflects a high sense of responsibility among all relevant stakeholders.
Additionally, the ministry confirmed its commitment to providing all possible facilitations to encourage local production and stimulate investment in the poultry sector. This aims to meet domestic market demands while enhancing the quality and competitiveness of national products.
