Hodeida - Saba:

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Jamal Amer, met today in Hodeida Governorate with the Head of the ICRC delegation, Christine Chibola.

The meeting, which included Hodeida Governor Abdullah Atifi and the Deputy Governor for Services Affairs, Mohammed Haleisi, discussed the consequences of the recent Zionist aggression on the governorate. The discussions focused on the damage inflicted on water and sanitation facilities, power generation stations, and the severe impact on civilians’ daily lives.

The Foreign Minister described the meeting as an opportunity to explore ways the ICRC could support Hodeidah’s public service sectors, contributing to the restoration of essential services and overcoming the ongoing challenges amid continued aggression.

He stressed the importance of the ICRC taking into account all observations and recommendations that could help formulate practical solutions to facilitate humanitarian work while considering the exceptional conditions in Hodeida — one of the governorates most affected by the aggression.

Minister Amer expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the ICRC mission and emphasized the importance of increasing support to address service disruptions and meet the urgent needs of the affected population.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing all necessary facilitation to the ICRC and its staff to ensure they can carry out their humanitarian role effectively.

For his part, Governor Atifi expressed hope that support would be directed toward meeting the governorate’s urgent needs in the sectors of water, electricity, and health. He praised the Foreign Ministry’s efforts and the ICRC’s neutrality in its humanitarian mission.

ICRC Head of Mission, Christine Cipolla, affirmed the organization’s commitment to alleviating the humanitarian crisis and working in close coordination with the Ministry and local authorities to find appropriate solutions to the existing challenges.

Meanwhile, Director of the Electricity Corporation, Engineer Ahmed Rawdan, and Deputy Director of the Water Corporation, Khaled Fikri, presented a report on the damage caused to power plants and water reservoirs, which led to widespread service interruptions affecting citizens’ homes.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold a technical session involving the most affected service institutions, to assess what emergency assistance the ICRC can provide as part of its urgent intervention plan.
