Sana'a - Saba:
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates denounced on Friday the bias of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen in the statement attributed to him regarding the situation in the Red Sea.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the statement reflects the UN envoy's lack of neutrality, as he completely ignored the root causes of the escalation in the Red Sea, namely the genocidal crimes committed by the Zionist entity in Gaza, in full view of the United Nations and the world, which has remained inactive.
The Ministry noted that the statement, which lacked balance and neutrality, was supposed to express concern over the ongoing Zionist aggression against Yemen, which targets civilian objects that are indispensable to the civilian population. It should also have included a demand that the Zionist entity cease its aggression.
The ministry's statement noted that this statement came one day after the Special Envoy addressed the same issue in his monthly briefing to the Security Council, while remaining silent when the Zionist entity targets civilians and civilian objects in Yemen.
It explained that this bias is what makes it difficult for Sana'a to engage with the Secretary-General's envoy, whose position requires him to maintain an equal distance from all parties to the conflict, rather than taking sides. Furthermore, the envoy's continued negative and even biased approach to the Yemeni people and the US-Zionist aggression against them could push the Yemeni government to escalate beyond simply halting official contact with the envoy and his office.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its commitment to the freedom and safety of navigation in the Red Sea, and that the maritime ban is limited to the Zionist entity only and comes after the international community and the United Nations failed to lift the blockade imposed on Gaza and halt the genocidal crimes that have been ongoing for more than 21 months.
The ministry stated that the purpose of this ban is to pressure the Zionist entity to end its aggression, lift the siege on Gaza, and allow humanitarian aid to enter the famine-stricken Palestinian people. Sana'a halted its attacks when a ceasefire was reached in Gaza and resumed them after the Zionist entity reneged on the agreement.
The ministry reminded the UN envoy that Sana'a has not used this tactic despite being subjected to an unjust aggression and a brutal blockade since March 26, 2015.
It also affirmed that this religious, humanitarian, and moral stance in support of the Palestinian people being annihilated in Gaza is consistent with international humanitarian law and the 1949 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the principled, humanitarian, and moral position of the Republic of Yemen in support of the Palestinian people and their just cause.
It emphasized the need for the Special Envoy to adhere to his mandate, which is to exert good offices to achieve a political settlement in Yemen and to work on everything that would pave the way for this goal and alleviate the humanitarian suffering endured by the Yemeni people for the tenth consecutive year.
