Baghdad - Saba:

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday its welcome of the Kurdistan Workers' Party's announcement regarding the commencement of the weapons handover process.

A statement from the ministry stated, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Republic of Iraq's welcome of the announcement issued by the Kurdistan Workers' Party regarding the commencement of the weapons handover process, the first steps of which took place near al-Sulaymaniyah governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

This comes within the framework of the party's previously announced commitment to abandon armed activity after more than four decades of conflict."

The statement added, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers this step an important development that represents an effective beginning of the disarmament process and represents a real opportunity to support stability and enhance efforts towards lasting reconciliation in the region, thus contributing to ending cycles of violence and opening new horizons for understanding and peaceful coexistence."

According to the statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "Iraq's full support for this path," stressing that "this step paves the way for a new phase of constructive cooperation with our neighbor, the Republic of Turkey, based on joint action to address security challenges, thus enhancing the sovereignty of Iraq and Turkey and preserving their security and stability."

The statement concluded, "The Ministry hopes that this initiative will contribute to turning the page on political, security, and social tensions and serve as a starting point for a responsible regional dialogue that addresses the roots of crises and enhances security and development for the benefit of all peoples of the region."
