Washington – Saba:
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday the imposition of tariffs of up to 30 percent on imports from the European Union and Mexico, set to take effect starting August 1.
In a post on his social media platform "Truth Social," Trump stated that the move comes as part of his administration's efforts to protect the American economy and domestic industries. He confirmed that goods imported from the EU and Mexico will be subject to the new tariffs.
It is worth noting that the European Union had been seeking a comprehensive trade agreement with the United States, involving all 27 member states of the bloc.
This announcement comes just a week after President Trump revealed new tariffs on imports from several countries, including Japan, South Korea, Canada, and Brazil. He also imposed a 50 percent tariff on copper imports.
