Moscow - Saba:
The Russian army announced on Monday the capture of a British-made drone serving with the Ukrainian forces. It was dismantled by specialists from the Russian Special Operations Center "Pars-Sarmat" for study.
Sputnik quoted a source at the Pars-Sarmat Center, nicknamed "Advocat," as saying that the captured model had been decommissioned by the British Navy and converted by the Ukrainian military into an attack drone carrying a warhead weighing approximately eight kilograms. Additional firmware was also installed to adjust speed and altitude, thus increasing the flight path. The drone flew approximately 400 kilometers before being shot down and captured.
The agency source explained that the drone is capable of deceiving air defense systems, which recognize it as a false target and allow it to continue on its path.
Advocat added that the drone costs just under one million rubles (more than $12,500), is equipped with a jet engine, and has a speed of approximately 110 kilometers per hour. The upgraded drone can accelerate to 230 kilometers. Meanwhile, the model contains outdated engines and controls.
